Ask your local legislator if you know he

Alert the media
Here are some press release guidelines
for media publicity:
1. If sending the release by email, use
the subject line to your advantage. Never waste space
with the words "press release." Think of the subject
line as a headline.
Put the date FIRST if you have an event.
This tells the publication how urgent your message is.
2. Put your announcement in the body of
the email so your news can be seen immediately--avoid
attachments. Here's why. An attachment puts your news
into an envelope that has to be opened (An extra step!
Imagine an extra step multiplied by 100 emails a day!)
3. Avoid logos that clog up email.
Special formats and fonts mean extra time is spent
re-typing. Give us what, when, where, speakers, and
cost. Please use this order: TIME, DATE, PLACE.
4. Target your email rather than emailing
multiple reporters. Call the publication to find out who
in the newsroom handles your news. Each reporter covers
several beats and in these times, it's inefficient to
have two or three staffers handling the same exact
e-mail.
Turn out the troops
Send out a quick note to your email lists
or listserv. Something like this will do nicely:
Had enough of the Corporations and the
super-wealthy not having to pay their fair share during
this budget crisis while California is on the brink of
collapsing?
If so, come to a rally/press conference
on ________ at ______p.m. at
